British Mk.I - This is a model of a bomber that flew from Sudan against Italian East Africa in 1940 and 1941. The Wellesley was the first plane to use geodetic construction when it entered service in 1937. By the outbreak of WWII it had been replaced in most places by Handley Page Hampdens, Armstrong Whitworth Whitleys, and Vickers Wellingtons. It saw extensive service, however, against the Italians in East Africa, and did well, although several were lost to Italian Fiat C.R.32 and C.R.42 fighters. |
