American SB2U-3 - This is a model of a land based Marine dive bomber that flew from Midway to resist the attempted Japanese invasion of June 1942. Midway was the last combat for Vindicators, as they were in the process of being replaced on U.S. Navy carriers by Douglas SBD Dauntless dive bombers. The French flew an export version of the Vindicator, the V-156F, against the German and Italian invasion of 1940. They were flown from land bases by the French navy's air arm, the Aéronavale, which lacked a carrier. They were obtained from the USA before the war.
