Japanese Ki-21-IIa Type 97 Army Heavy Bomber - This is a model of a bomber that flew against the Allies in Malaya and Burma in December 1941. The Allied codename for the plane was "Sally." The Ki-21 first saw action in 1938 against the Chinese, and became the Japanese Army's primary heavy bomber, replacing the Fiat BR.20's they had obtained from Italy. The Sally continued in this role through most of WWII, as its designated replacement, the Nakajima Ki-49 "Helen" was a failure, and its eventual replacement, the Mitsubishi Ki-67 "Peggy," wasn't available in significant numbers until late 1944.
