Soviet Pe-2 Series 205 - This is a model of a dive bomber that flew against the Germans in 1943 or later. The first versions of the Pe-2 lacked a defensive machine-gun position behind the pilot. Some Pe-2s were converted into long range fighters and called Pe-3s. Some were converted into long range reconnaissance planes and designated Pe-2Rs. The Pe-2 was one of the three new attack bombers the Soviets secretly developed after their invasions of Poland and Finland in 1939. The other two were the Il-2 and the SU-2. The Pe-2 was one of the most successful dive bombers of WWII, with over 11,000 being built. |
