Philippine P-26A - This is a model of a fighter that flew against the Japanese invasion of the Philippines in December 1941. The Philippine Army Air Corp had obtained its P-26s from the USA in July, and had about a dozen of them. The P-26 was the first American monoplane fighter when it entered U.S. Army Air Corp service in 1934. Only about 150 P-26s were built, and most of these were delivered to the U.S. Army by June 1934. But Boeing also produced a dozen P-26s for export. These planes, called Model 281s, were the first P-26s to see combat. Eleven were sold to China and flew against the Japanese in 1936 and 1937. One was sold to Spain and was shot down during the Spanish Civil War in 1936. The U.S. Army had almost completely replaced the P-26 with the Curtiss P-36 and the P-40 by the outbreak of war with Japan.
