British Mk.I - This is a model of a plane that attacked the Iraqi ground forces surrounding the RAF base at Habbaniya in Iraq in May of 1941. The Oxford was a two-engine trainer used to train bomber crews. It entered service in 1937 and over 8,500 were built before production ended in 1945. The RAF used Oxfords for training until 1954. Desperate circumstances at Habbaniya in 1941 forced the British to send the Oxfords stationed there on real bombing missions against the Iraqis. |
