Vichy French 167F - This is a model of a medium bomber that flew against the British and Free French attempt to invade Dakar, Senegal, in 1940. The French obtained their Marylands from the USA before the war. After the French surrendered to the Germans in 1940, their remaining Marylands were used by the Armée de l'Air de l'Armistice, the Vichy French air force. |

South African 167B - This is a model of a bomber that flew against Italian East Africa in 1940 and 1941. After the French surrendered in 1940, the British took over the shipments of Marylands the French had already ordered. They used them in the Mediterranean and North Africa and gave some to the South Africans and Free French. The Maryland was the predecessor to the Martin 187 Baltimore, which entered service in 1942. Like the Maryland, the Baltimore was never used by the U.S., despite being American-built. |
