British Mk.I - This is a model of a coastal patrol bomber that flew against the German invasion of Norway in 1940. The Hudson was the first American built plane to see combat with the RAF in WWII. It was a militarized version of Lockheed's Model 14 Super Electra airliner. They went into service with the British in 1939, before Lend-Lease, and helped to replace British Avro Ansons. Australia built Hudsons under a license from the USA and flew them against the Japanese. After the USA entered the war, it employed some Hudsons for coastal patrols in 1942. Those flown by the U.S. Army Air Force were called Lockheed A-29s and those flown by the U.S. Navy were called Lockheed PBO-1s. In 1943 the U.S. Navy began replacing the Hudson with the new Lockheed PV-1 Ventura. |
