Japanese Ki-27b Type 97 Army Fighter - This is a model of a plane that flew for Japan's Kwantung Army in Manchuria in 1939 during its border war with the Soviets at Khalkhin Gol. The Allied codename for the plane was "Nate." The Nate first saw combat in 1938 against the Chinese. By December 1941, the Japanese Army was in the process of replacing the Nate with the newer Nakajima Ki-43 "Oscar." Beginning in 1942, the Japanese supplied Nates to their reluctant ally Thailand.
