German He 162A-2 - This is a model of one of the jet fighters that tried to attack Allied aircraft over Germany starting in April 1945. The He 162 went from conception to first test flight in only 90 days. It was designed to be easy to build, maintain, and fly, thus the nickname of Volksjäger - the People's Fighter. It turned out, however, to be difficult to fly and its pilots suffered several accidents during its brief operational career. |
