British Mk.I - This is a model of a Fleet Air Arm fighter from the carrier HMS Formidable that flew against the Italians, Germans, and Vichy French in the Mediterranean in 1941. Fulmars were derived from the Fairey Battle bomber. They were the Royal Navy's primary carrier fighter during the first years of the war, replacing the Blackburn Skua. Necessity, however, often required them to operate from land bases. By the end of 1943, Seafires had replaced Fulmars as the Fleet Air Arm's primary British-built carrier fighter, and the Fairey Firefly, the Fulmar's successor, had become the FAA's primary two-seat carrier reconnaissance fighter.
