Consolidated PBY Catalina 1/72 Scale Model

American PBY-4 - This is a model of a Navy float plane that flew against the Japanese invasion of the Philippines in December 1941. PBYs were usually serviced in the water by seaplane tender ships but early models could also be beached using removable wheels. Later models, dubbed amphibians, were made with built-in retractable landing gear. Soviet PBY-1s, called GSTs, were built under license in that country beginning in 1937. PBY-5s, with glass blisters added for the waist gunners, were exported to the British, Australians, and Dutch beginning in 1940, while licensed production of PBY-5s began in Canada the same year. The Catalina performed a wide variety of duties during the war, but the U.S. Navy began to hand over its long-range naval patrol duties to the PV-1 Ventura in 1943.
