Italian Ca.311- This is a model of a light bomber that participated in the 1941 invasion of the Soviet Union. Ca.311s were the bomber contingent of the Corpo di Spedizione Italiano in Russia (CSIR), the Italian military unit that Mussolini sent to help the Germans. The Ca.311 was a development of the Ca.310 "Libeccio" which entered service with the Regia Aeronautica in 1937. Four Ca.310s were exported to Norway before the war and flew against the German invasion of 1940. The Ca.311, with a glazed nose replacing the solid nose of the Ca.310, entered Italian service in 1939. In 1942 Italy gave 10 Ca.311s to Axis Croatia for use against Communist partisans in Yugoslavia. The last variant of the Ca.310, the Ca.314, was also the most extensively produced version. It was introduced in 1940 and had upgraded armament. The Italians used them mostly as maritime patrol bombers, and they were exported to France and Sweden before Italy entered WWII. |
