Italian Z.1007bis - This is a model of a medium bomber that flew against Greece in 1940 and 1941. The Z.1007 entered service in 1940, with early models having a single tail, and later models having a double tail in order to give the dorsal gunner a better field of fire to the rear. It was built of wood, so enemy fire easily set it ablaze, but its performance was acceptable and it shared Italy's medium bomber role with another three-engined bomber, the Savoia Marchetti SM.79. After the Italian government surrendered in September, 1943, most of the remaining Z.1007s were used by the Italian Co-Belligerent Air Force. |
