Japanese G4M1 Type 1 Model 11 Navy Land-Based Bomber - This is a model of a plane like those that bombed Guadalcanal in late 1942 or early 1943. The G4M was the successor to the Mitsubishi G3M "Nell" naval land-based bomber, and its Allied codename was "Betty." The Betty became operational in 1941 and was used until the end of WWII. It was known for quickly bursting into flames when hit, even after suffering only minor damage. In 1945 the Betty was used to deliver Ohka suicide rockets to their launch points against American ships. The Japanese referred to their naval land-based attack bombers as Rikkos.
