German Ar 234 B-2 - This is a model of a jet bomber like those that helped to destroy the Ludendorff Bridge over the Rhine River at Remagen, Germany, in March 1945. The Ar 234 was originally designed as a high-speed reconnaissance plane. The first variant, the B-1, served successfully in this role beginning in the summer of 1944. The B-2 was the bomber variant, and entered service in the winter of 1944. Like the Messerschmitt Me 262 jet fighter, the Ar 234 was an excellent combat plane, but too little too late. |
